Sliema dominate. San Giljan disappoint but win too

San Giljan Firetech were lucky to leave the pool with 2 points as they risked  heavily against an enthusiastic Exiles Jet Services side. The first two sessions were one-sided, with San Giljan coming all out to avenge their 10-8 defeat in their preliminary round game against Exiles, and with the score reading 7-2 at half time there was little hope for Caruana Dingli's men.

The third session wasn't very different with both teams sharing 4 goals, coasting into the fourth session with a 9-4 score in San Giljan's favour. But the last session was a completely different story with Bonca and Cousin taking over and netting one goal after an other with San Giljan squandering all their chances and suffering Exiles' press. Exiles made the score 9-9 to the frustration of all San Giljan players and supporters, with the latter yelling regularly at Aquilina on a number of occasions to swim back and help his team mates in defence.

Exiles grabbed another equaliser to make it 10-10 and with 47 seconds on the clock San Giljan had possession once again but could not score in the 30 seconds, losing possession in the process. With 17 seconds left in the match, Caruana Dingli called a time out but things did not work out as planned when with 10 seconds to go they lost possession at the centre of the pool, and Toth made a final swim to grab the winner with a precise shot at the buzzer.

Sliema McDonalds showed their teeth against Sirens Firetech as they beat the St. Paul's Bay side 18-11 in a one sided encounter. Such was the divide between the two teams that by half time, Sliema were 10-3 up after netting 6 goals in the first session and with Soler, Meli and Brownrigg in fine form they found the net with relative ease against a sloppy Sirens defence.

Sliema had Bianchi in goal and Privitera once again did not feature in the pool, while Sirens had Montfort back in their ranks for the first time this season. Given their substantial lead at half time, Sliema relaxed their guard in the final two sessions, allowing Sirens back in the game but with Soler netting 6 goals and Meli netting another 5, Sliema's victory was never really threatened.
